Organic farming is a system of farming wherein a holistic and integrated approach is established while growing crops, rearing animals, tending soil and managing pests.

Organic agriculture though a very ancient technology for countries like India, needs to be revived as a biotechnological system. Today's modern agriculture entirely depends upon pollutants and toxicants like inorganic fertilizer, chemical pesticides, herbicides etc. All these inputs consume a very great amount of fossil fuel energy. In addition, these inputs cause pollution problem and in due course of time leads to the degradation of soil health.

As against chemical farming, organic farming systems consider soil as a living entity.
